Mike Latest News 3/31/2009 We just wrapped up production for trumpet extraordinaire Cindy Bradley's debut CD, entitled "Bloom". I had the privilege of writing and producing 10 of the songs on the CD, and she sounds fantastic on each one. I couldn't be more proud of Cindy ... she just was fantastic to work with, and so down to earth it's just ridiculous. And man ... she can play! It will be released on Trippin n Rhythm records on June 23rd. A big thanks to all of the musicians involved: Mel Brown, Freddie Fox, Thano Sahnas, Jay Soto, Tim Bowman, Tony Morra, John Herrera, Dominic Amato, Jaared, Marion Meadows, and Mario Mendivil. Everyone was fantastic. Also a big, big thanks to Jeff Lunt and Les Cutmore at Trippin n Rhythm. Jeff was a huge, huge help in overseeing the entire project. I'm looking forward to working with them on many, many more CD's. Congratulations to Althea Rene. Her song No Restrictions, a song I wrote and produced last year, debuted on the Contemporary jazz charts this week at #41. A flute player getting radio play is an amazing accomplishment, and a testament to her talent and perseverance. Great job Althea. Keep it up! Congratulations to Dominic Amato. He also debuted this week at #50 on the charts with the title track "Fresh From the Groove." Finally, the jazz world will see what we've known for some time ... that this cat is a PLAYER. Good luck Dom ... let's keep this going! I about to start recording on Jaared's upcoming CD on Trippin n Rhythm records. It should be fun!! A song I wrote and produced for Marion Meadows, called "Let the Top Down" was added as the first single for radio play this week. The CD "Secrets" will be released in another month on Heads Up records. More importantly, Marion is making my wife and I jealous by getting a place in Maui, where it is actually GREEN. I've been in Phoenix too long LOL. Congrats Marion! Hopefully we'll have another hit on our hands. Stay tuned ... 1/20/2009 Happy New Year! I just finished production on 3 songs for Jay Soto's upcoming CD, to be released on NuGroove records. I also threw down some keys on 2 other songs. As I mentioned earlier, Jay and I were in a band together back in high school, lost touch, then reconnected again to do this CD. It was a blast working with this absolutely amazing guitar player and songwriter, though we did probably waste a few sessions reminiscing about the past ... lol. Look for his CD, called Groovalicious, to be released sometime in April or May of '09. Big CONGRATULATIONS to Dominic Amato for signing with NuGroove records. Woo hoo ... we did it Dom! I had the pleasure of writing and producing 8 of the songs on his debut effort a while back. He has been very patient, and it paid off. His Cd, called "Fresh from the Groove," will be release on NuGroove in February 09'. Congrats again Dominic ... Congratulations to Pete Gitlin for charting on the Contemporary jazz independent chart with a song I had the pleasure playing keys on, called "B Serious. " Great job Pete! I will have the pleasure of writing and producing the next CD for Trippin n Rhythm recording artist Jaared, an amazing sax player and great guy. We should get started sometime in March or April. I'm looking forward to it Jaared! 12/10/2008 Well I knew this day had to come. I have played my final night at Eddie V's after close to 7 years on Sunday nights. You could say it's both good and sad. Good because my production schedule has become so overwhelming that I don't have the time to do it anymore.  Sad because I've never had a better, easier, and fun gig than this one. The staff and management were absolutely amazing from day 1. Plus, the food ... wow. Anyway, it will be nice to have my Sunday nights back with the family, but I will definitely miss playing there. Thanks everyone at Eddie V's! 12/7/2008 I just finished writing and producing 7 tracks for Marion Meadows. We had a great time again ... this was our 4th CD working together ... man time flies. The CD will be called "Secrets" and is scheduled to be released in April of 2009 on Heads Up records. Once again, Mel Brown and Freddie Fox played on all of the tracks, and we even got Mike White involved on drums on this one. Congrats Marion on another job well done! Congratulations to Tim Bowman. I had the pleasure of recording on 4 songs of his new CD, which was signed to Trippin n Rhythm records and released in September. His first single, "Sweet Sundays," is the #1 song in the country on the contemporary jazz charts. It couldn't happen to a nicer guy. Congratulations to Freddie Fox. After releasing his 2nd CD, called "Feelin it," he reached the top 20 on the independent contemporary jazz chart with a song I co-wrote and produced entitled "Still Lovin You." The CD sounds fantastic and probably has a few more radio hits to go. Great job Freddie! I'm still working on Cindy Bradley and Jay Soto's CD's. They are coming along nicely. Hopefully they should both be done 1st quarter of 2009. 9/17/2008 I just finished playing with "Bad Sneakers," an eleven piece Steely Dan tribute band over at Martini Ranch in Scottsdale. It was a lot of work to learn 20 or so tunes, but the band sounded fantastic. That is some pretty complex music, but we pulled it off. It was great to play those songs I grew up with exactly like the recordings, with full instrumentation. A big hats off to Mel Brown and Matt Goodman for putting the band together ... what a tremendous undertaking. And another hats off to all the musicians for putting in all the work. I'm not sure how many more gigs I can do, but that one was sure fun, and if you get a chance you should DEFINITELY check them out. 7/23/2008 I finished recording the title track for the beautiful Althea Rene, a tremendously talented flautist. The song is called No Reservations, featuring the usual cast of Mel Brown, Freddie Fox, and Mike White. I had a great time, and she was totally cool to work with. She is shopping a deal right now ... Good Luck Althea! I dropped 6 tracks of keyboards for the very cool Pete Gitlin over at my friend John Herrera's studio. John produced the CD and did a fantastic job. Mel Brown through down some killer bass, and John did double duty playing drums. Pete is a great guitar player and even greater guy, and will release the CD, titled "Full Circle and the Great Temptation" independently. 5/23/2008 It's been a busy, busy time at the Broening house. There has been non-stop construction going on since we moved last year. Seriously ... Non stop. Now we're FINALLY just about finished with everything. Most importantly for me, the B-Hive studio will be up and running in a week or so. No more working out of a den ... Woo Hoo!!!! Many thanks go out to my father-in-law Norman for helping with the construction and garage conversion. You're awesome!! Also, a huge thanks to Demitri Sahnas for all of his expertise and advice. On the production front, I have the good fortune of beginning pre-production on several great projects. First, Marion Meadows and I are about to start writing on his 11th CD and our 4th together for Heads Up Records. His last CD, Dressed to Chill, was another huge success, reaching #2 on billboard and producing 2 top 10 radio hits ... Dressed to Chill at #3 and Remember Me at #10. It is tentatively scheduled to be released in early 2009. This summer I will also have the pleasure of producing the 3rd CD release for Jay Soto on Nu-Groove records. Jay and I actually have a bit of a history together ... we were in a band together in high school. We got along great, loved each other’s playing, yet somehow lost contact for several years before hooking up again on this project. I'm really looking forward to it. I will give updates as more details become available. 4/01/2008 I've finished production on a few projects. First, I dropped two songs for Steve Oliver on his release "One Night Live," due to be released June 24th, 2008. It is a live performance CD that includes our two studio productions. One of the songs we did, "On the Upside" was already released as a single, and reached the top 25 on the radio charts. This was the 9th top 25 radio hit I've produced in the past 4 years. Steve, as always, sounds fantastic, and we had a great time working together once again. His live show is off the hook, so do yourself a favor and get this live CD ... it is absolutely incredible. Freddie Fox, who is my 1st call guitarist on almost everything I produce, has finished his solo CD, and I dropped in writing and production on 2 songs and played keys on a third. Congratulations to David Hernandez for making the top 12 of American Idol. David recorded here at my studio on a couple of tunes last year and was absolutely amazing. He's a great guy and great talent, and I had a great time working with him. Even though he was voted off, he has a bright, bright future ahead of him. Congrats David!! April 2008 marks the 6th year I have been playing Sunday nights at Eddie V's. SIX YEARS!!! Man time flies. As long as they'll still have me, I'll continue to play. Tim came to me about a month ago through my good friend Mel Brown. He needed a couple of originals, and we're working on them right now. This is one VERY cool, VERY nice, down to earth guy. Steve is doing a live CD, and is going toward a more vocal, esoteric, world beat direction. It's been a fantastic, incredible experience since the Grammy win back in February. Over the past few months, the local media has given the grammy story a great editorial run. A BIG, BIG thanks goes out to my friend Keith Mishkin, Nicole Roos and the wonderful people at Crosby/Wright for helping get the story out. Keith is one of my long-time best friends, and was responsible for going to Crosby/Wright to help get the publicity started. I can't thank you enough buddy!! I had the privilege of writing and producing 8 of the tracks for the up and coming young saxophone star. It's an incredible sounding first effort for Dominic. He had serious chops and energy when I met him, but once we started the project, he literally turned into a brilliant artist overnight. Our little boyz all growzed up ... wipes away tears :) Seriously, this CD SMOKES!! Dominic is seeking a label right now, and a little birdie told me that there already is serious interest.
